Torwood House is an Independent School and an excellent choice for your child’s education in Bristol – not only for physical and emotional growth, but especially in support of academic achievements.
Every year we have superb results in English, Maths, and Reading.
Key Stage 2 at Torwood House School is a time for pupils to develop a deeper understanding in the 3 core areas and the foundation subjects:
- Art and Design
- Design Technology
- Physical Development
For example, in Geography during Key Stage 2 children investigate a variety of people, places and environments in the UK and abroad, and start to make links between places in the world.
Children develop their creativity and imagination through more complex art activities to build on their skills and improve control of materials, tools and techniques.
During Key Stage 2 children use a wide range of ICT tools and information sources to support their work in other subjects. They develop research skills and decide what information is appropriate for their work.
Our qualified Sports Teachers encourage participation in an array of sporting activities including:
- Touch Rugby
All children have the opportunity to represent the School in events and competitions with other local schools. During our Physical Development lessons, as well as in our Afterschool provision, we use Bristol Downs and our own all-weather games pitch, playground and grassed gardens.
Children sing and play instruments with increasing confidence, and skill, being more expressive and aware of their own contribution to a group and class performances. We start to see more improvisation and musical compositions, and our children can perform publicly throughout the year. All children have the opportunity to have a speaking part in the annual School play.
Religious Education continues to make a distinctive contribution to the Torwood House School curriculum by developing children’s knowledge and understanding of religion, religious beliefs, practices, languages and traditions. Our children start to understand more about these as influences on individuals, communities, societies and cultures. This enables the children to consider and respond to a range of important questions related to their own spiritual development, develop their own values and attitudes, as well as start to contemplate fundamental questions concerning the meaning and purpose of life.
Through Personal, Social, Health Education and Citizenship our children learn more about themselves as growing and changing individuals, and as members of their communities here in Bristol and at home. They become more mature, independent and self-confident; learning about the wider world and interdependent communities within it. Our children really can start to develop their own sense of social justice, their moral responsibilities, and how to resist bullying and peer pressure. Moving to Secondary School is an important time for all children. Here at Torwood House School we fully prepare our children within our PGHCE curriculum.
